Ligue 1 Review GW16 – Shipstontrev

RENNES (Sarnab Wazza) 87 beat NICE (Lateriser) 69

This all-India clash proved more successful than their cricket team in this high scoring match. Sarnab continued her recent excellent form with this 18 point win. Her DGW Sunderland picks of Sess(C), Cuellar and Fletcher, plus good points from Michu, Cameron and Begovic gave her the highest score of the week in Ligue 1, and put her well into the top 4.5k in the FPL  overall standings and 3rd in Ligue 1. Lateriser took a 4 point hit, and despite having Sess (C), Michu, Clyne and Begovic he was unable to bridge the gap. Having Rafael on his bench didn’t help matters, but LR is still in the top 3.6k in FPL.

LYON (FC Borcelona) 80 beat NANCY (Coldplay) 61

FCB moved into 2nd place in Ligue 1 and into the Champions League mix with this 19 point win over Coldplay. Sess (C), Michu, Puncheon, Rafael, Fletcher and Begovic all scored well for him, while Coldplay only had the first three of these and left Bassong on his bench to continue his recent poor form.

MARSEILLE (Fratboy) 80 beat BASTIA (Beavis) 65

Fratboy’s team name is “Pleased to Michu”, but he didn’t need the points from the Swansea man as Sess(C), Cuellar, Puncheon, Rafael, Fletcher and Begovic brought him a comfortable victory over Beavis, who is now staring relegation in the face. Ironically Beavis had Michu in his team to go with Sess(C) and Begovic, but he he must be kicking himself for benching both Rafael and Ryan Nelsen.

LILLE (In Like Flynn) 78 beat TOULOUSE (Heco87) 47

In a week when all the previous week’s top three lost, this has to be one the shock results of the season, as Heco87 suffered an astonishing 31 point defeat to fall to 5th the the Ligue 1 standings. Sess (C), Michu, Clyne and Gibbs were his top scorers, while Heco87 could only get good points from Michu, Begovic and Cazorla (C), as 6 of his players got just 10 points between them.

PSG (Super Zlatan) 77 beat VALENCIENNES (Bazzinga!) 62

SZ’s good form continued with this success, which could have been greater had he not benched Clyne. All the same, Sess(C), Cuellar, Michu and Mata contributed useful points, whilst Bazzinga! suffered from giving the armband to Defoe at Everton and benching Cameron, so the points from Michu, Rafael, Mata and Begovic were not enough.

MONTPELLIER (Gervinho’s Forehead) 75 beat BREST (Shipstontrev) 68

GF overturned the form book big time as 20th place beat 1st place in this surprise result. Michu(C), Cuellar, Cameron and the Autosubbed Ryan Nelsen did the business for him, whilst Shipstontrev took a 4 point hit due to the malingering sicknote that is Theo Walcott, which meant that the scores of Michu(C), Cuellar, Puncheon and Begovic were not enough. Shipstontrev is now looking over his shoulder as the pack closes in at the top of the leader board, while GF has some hope in his fight against relegation.

TROYES (kaz) 75 beat EVIAN (King Eric) 71

Another tie that went against league positions, as kaz gained a narrow victory against his American opponent. The Sunderland DGW trio of Sess(C), Cuellar and Fletcher, combined with Michu and Mata gained him the win. Captain Hindsight would say that King Eric’s selection of RVP (C) was a mistake, as he had Michu, Cuellar Mata and Cameron in his team, but what does he know?

SOCHAUX (Chazza) 70 beat LORIENT (Dr. Ennet) 67

Dr. Ennet’s Champions League prospects took a knock with this loss, and he will feel this was a match he could have won. Chazza’s points came from RVP(C), Michu, Cuellar and Cameron, while the Swede took a 4 point hit and had Sess(C), Michu, Puncheon and Mata, but left Nelsen’s 9 points on his bench.

REIMS (Mahfreems) 67 beat AJACCIO (Ms.Red19) 66

Just one point in this game,  and another match that could have gone the other way if certain players had not been benched. Palace fan Mahfreems had Sess(C), Michu, Clyne, Begovic and benched Rafael, while Ireland’s Ms.Red19 had Michu(C), Cuellar and Mata but she benched both Clyne and Begovic.

ST. ETIENNE (Chrissy Waddle) 58 beat BORDEAUX (Ryan) 57

The lowest-scoring match this week also saw a one point winning margin, as another high flyer was downed. Chrissy’s punt on Berbatov (C) failed, so he only got decent scores from Michu, Puncheon and Begovic. Even though he benched Clyne, he sneaked the win somehow. Kiwi Ryan had a nightmare almost as bad as the All Blacks, with RVP(C), Michu, Cameron and Begovic contributing nearly 70% of his points, to give him a few worries over Champions League qualification.
