LIGUE 1 REVIEW GW17 – SANTI COMES TO TOWN

This Review is dedicated to the player of GW17, whose 23 point haul brought back memories of Cristiano Ronaldo and Frank Lampard in their FPL prime. Unfortunately the little Spanish git, sorry maestro, wasn’t in my team 😣

TOULOUSE (Heco87) 75 beat MARSEILLE (Fratboy) 29

The top beneficiary of owning Santi was Heco87, as you might expect from someone near the top 2k in the FPL overall standings. These 23 points, allied to those from RVP(C), Ba, Silva and Demel gave the Magpies fan a crushing 46 point victory over Fratboy, whose only decent points came from RVP(C).

RENNES (Sarnab Wazza) 70 beat VALENCIENNES (!Bazzinga!) 29

Another comfortable victory from India’s Sarnab to keep her in the hunt for the Ligue 1 title to go with her 2k ranking in FPL. The points from Santi and RVP(C) were accompanied by decent returns from Silva and McAuley to beat her American opponent, who had RVP but gave the armband to everyone’s favourite buck-toothed alleged racist.

ST. ETIENNE (Chrissy Waddle) 65 beat LORIENT (Dr. Ennet) 47

The combination of RVP(C) and Santi, together with Silva gave Chrissy a win and a chance of a Europa League place at the expense of his Swedish opponent, despite his choices of RVP(C), Demel and Sessegnon.

SOCHAUX (Chazza) 61 beat BREST (Shipstontrev) 53

Another match that turned on the choice of Santi, as Chazza got it right and Shipstontrev went for Walcott. Chazza is now in a Europa League spot in Ligue 1. while Shipstontrev now has to win his last two matches to win the title.

LILLE (In Like Flynn) 60 beat REIMS (Mahfreems) 37

This clash of Brighton v Palace fans saw ILF win by 23 points, mainly due the dynamic duo but supplemented with points from Kieran Gibbs, which made his 4 point hit irrelevant. Mahfreems was another caught out by captaining Suarez instead of RVP or Silva.

TROYES (kaz) 54 beat AJACCIO (Ms.Red19) 38

Kaz has only recently realised what finishing in the bottom 3 means, so will be relieved at this victory. In the first non-Santi ownership clash, RVP(C), Ba and Demel saw him home over his Irish opponent, who took a 4 point hit and only got decent points from RVP(C) and Silva.

NANCY (Coldplay) 54 beat BORDEAUX (Ryan) 41

In this Pakistan v New Zealand clash victory went to Coldplay by 13 points. Both managers had RVP(C), but Coldplay had Walcott, Shawcross and Sess whilst Kiwi Ryan only had Ba, also taking a 4 point hit, a blow to his hopes of a Champions League spot.

LYON (FC Borcelona) 53 beat PSG (Super Zlatan) 41

Another Santi-free zone saw FCB get even closer to the Ligue 1 leader with this win over SZ. Both players had RVP(C) and Sess, but Jussi’s 7 point haul in the goalless draw at West Brom tipped the balance in FCB’s favour.

EVIAN (King Eric) 49 beat NICE (Lateriser) 47

Just 2 points gave a victory to the USA over India here, as LR’s uncanny ability to be great at FPL but rubbish at H2H showed itself again. Both managers got good points from RVP(C) and Walcott, but King Eric just had enough in support to sneak a win, which puts him in a Europa League spot in the table.

BASTIA (Beavis) 45 beat Montpellier (Gervinho’s Forehead) 40

Unusually both managers captained Rooney ahead of RVP, but Cyprus’s Beavis also had Demel and Brunt to boost his tally, whilst GF only had Silva. GF is now in a Reading-like position, rooted to the bottom of the table and staring relegation in the face. At least he doesn’t have to look at Brian McDermott on a regular basis…
