Europa League Reviews – Groups C and H by Abhishek

Group C

Genoa [EX] 63  vs Manchester United [Impressive Tackle] 50 :

Genoa won this fixture against the heavy favorites Manchester United. While both managers had RVP(c), Podolski, Mata, Walcott, Fellaini and Begovic, it was ultimately the differentials of Genoa, who produced the goods. Genoa’s Suarez and Zabaleta outscored United’s Ba and Demel. Along with home field advantage, this proved decisive for Genoa.

Bordeaux [Ryan] 41 vs Hertha BSC [Billy Ketsu] 58 :

Despite doing very well in recent weeks, Bordeaux hasn’t had much luck in H2Hs of late. This trend has continued in this fixture.  Two vastly different teams faced off in this matchup. Bordeaux had Ba, Cameron, Michu and Tevez while Herta BSC had Suarez, Davies, Mata and Podolski. The biggest difference in this fixture was Mata. Due to his, Herta BSC won despite playing away from home.

Next week’s matches are Herta BSC vs Genoa and Manchester United vs Bordeaux. Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from their Matchday 1 loss in front of their own fans. Herta BSC will look to take advantage of their home fixture and get another 3 points.

Group H

Torino [Bowstring] 54 vs West Bromwich Albion [Snake Juice] 41 :

With home field advantage, Torino won this fixture in a great style in another matchup decided by Mata. Torino had De Gea, Clichy, Azpilicueta, Mata, Dempsey and Aguero(c), which vastly outscored West Brom’s Begovic, Demel, Cameron, Bale, Suarez, Ba and RVP(c). Torino used their WC to perfection to take advantage of being at home to comfortably see off West Brom.

Standard Liege [Duffman] 63 vs FC Steaua Bucuresti [Doosra] 63 :

The closest matchup of Matchday 1 of the Champions League saw Standard Liege take advantage of its 4-point home advantage to see the match end in an epic draw. Both teams had their own differentials this week: Standard Liege ditched RVP and went for Rooney  while Doosra had Baines and Giroud. If Dzeko had played 90 mins, he would’ve surely scored enough to lead Doosra’s team to victory. Doosra can consider himself very unlucky here not winning only due to being away.

Next week’s matches are FC Steaua Bucuresti vs Torino and West Bromwich Albion vs Standard Liege. Fans favourite Doosra will have huge pressure on him to continue his superb run of points and deliver the wins, while Torino looks forward to piling the pressure on Doosra in this epic match. In the other fixture, West Bromwich Albion will be looking to bounce back from last week with a win at home.
