Champions League Groups A-D Matchday 5 Review by Shipstontrev

LIVERPOOL (Optimus) 77 beat RENNES (Sarnab Wazza) 64

Optimus had an important win over Sarnab in the Group Of Death’s penultimate round. Both managers gave the armband to Gareth Bale, and both had FPL regulars Walcott, Mata and Michu, but Liverpool fan Optimus profited from having Suarez and Glen Johnson to go with Evra and Jaaskelainen. Sarnab got good points from Fellaini, Davies and Zabaleta, but his bench, including a certain suspended Russian, did not provide enough support as he ended up with only 10 players.

ATALANTA (MJ6987) 83 beat HAMBURG (4Vets) 76

A close match ultimately decided by Vice Captain choices in the absence of Sergio Aguero who had the armband from both managers. MJ went with Suarez and profited from Wigan’s porous defence, while Liverpool fan 4Vets opted for Bale. Both players had Walcott, Mata and Begovic and each had a player rarely seen in many teams, Azpilicueta for MJ and Clichy for 4Vets,

The final round of matches sees 4Vets at home to Optimus and Sarnab at home to MJ. Another two home wins will see the list of tie-breakers come into play to decide the qualifiers for the knockout stages.

SOCHAUX (Chazza) 78 beat TWENTE (Jinswick) 67

A major upset here, as Chazza overturned the form book with an away win against the previously unbeaten Jinswick, despite taking a 4 point hit. His star performers were Suarez(C), Sessegnon, Bale and Walcott. Whilst Jinswick had the latter two in his team as well, his choice of Mata as Vice Captain cost him dear in Aguero’s absence, especially as he also had Fellaini in his team.

DEPORTIVO LA CORUNA (Boomshakalaka) 60 beat INTERNAZIONALE (Isacki) 57

Boom’s 4 points for home advantage proved crucial in this closely fought tie, in which both managers will feel they could have done better. Whilst Boom had Bale(C), RVP, Walcott, Michu and Mata, Isacki also had the latter three, and Johnson and De Gea. However, he captained Lambert instead of Bale, had Giroud in his team and benched Ben Davies rather than Clyne, so he must be rueing a missed opportunity here.

Matchday 6 sees Isacki at home to Jinswick and Chazza at home to Boom. Both home managers must think they are still  in with a chance of qualifying for the next round.

NICE (Lateriser) 67 beat CHIEVO VERONA (Reinaman) 53

Lateriser gave himself a chance of qualifying for the next round with this victory. LR had VC Bale to thank after Aguero’s no-show at Villa Park, but he also had useful points from differential Gaston Ramirez, Johnson and Jonny Evans to go with the usual suspects Walcott, Michu and Mata. The Chelsea midfielder was RM’s captain, which proved an unfortunate decision given that he also had Suarez and Demba Ba in his eleven. RM also had a couple of differentials in his side in the shape of Monreal and Samba, but this defeat means he cannot qualify for the next round of the CL.

SWANSEA (Evs) 85 beat BARCELONA (TW) 67

Evs showed yet again why he is winning admiration from all FPL players with a dominant display in this win over TW. The Welsh Wizard naturally had compatriot Bale(C), with Suarez, Fellaini, Davies and De Gea in support. TW fought back valiantly with Bale(C), Suarez, Davies and Jose Enrique, but was let down by the likes of Giroud and Sissoko,

The last group matches are TW at home to Lateriser and Reinaman hosting Evs, who has already qualified for the next round and has to be one of the favourites to go all the way.

VALENCIA (Old School) 80 beat PSV (Funkyav) 51

A comfortable and potentially crucial victory for Old School over his main qualification rival. OS had Suarez(C), backed up by Bale, Davies,  Zabaleta and Walcott. Funky went with Bale(C), but did not have Suarez and the only other player in his team to score over 5 points was De Gea.

HANNOVER (Canadian Football) 79 beat BREST (Shipstontrev) 55

Another comfortable victory in Group D as Shipstontrev made it 5 defeats in a row. CF had Suarez(C), Bale, Jose Enrique and Zabaleta as his top performers, while Shipstontrev had Bale (C), Davies and Zabaleta, but the wrong Liverpool players in Gerrard and the injured Daniel Sturridge.

The final matches in Group D are Funkyav at home to already-qualified Canadian Football, and Shipstontrev trying to avoid a whitewash at home to Old School.
