Champions League and Europa League – Semi Finals

Congratulations to those managers who have progressed through the Quarter Finals of their respective competitions, and commiserations to those eliminated

Champions League:

Zep claimed the biggest scalp in the Quarters as he eliminated FFS favourite for the FPL crown, Evs, to set up an all-German Semi Final with Canadian Football’s Hannover 96. Fellow deadzoners, Jinswick and Valar Morghulis had the closest match across both competitions with Jinswick victorious by 2 points. MJ6987 proved the RMT computer wrong as he vastly outscored the predictions to beat 1966’s Southampton by 8 points. Canadian Football proved far too much for Optimus’ Liverpool side to prove even with limited time for fantasy football, with family taking precedence, it is possible to perform admirably. The semi finals are as follows and will take part over the next two game weeks, GW36 and GW37. The spreadsheet can be found here.

Twente (Jinswick) vs Atalanta (MJ6987)

Bayern Munich (Zep) vs Hannover 96 (Canadian Football)

Europa League:

Parmtree’s Bilbao, sometimes known for his drunken rages on FFS, romped to victory over the hapless US Pescara, as they and their manager, Goonerdhanesh had back-to-back shockers to hand Parmtree a 78 point victory. Epic Fail lived up to his name as he and his Villans fell to Aatish’s Benfica. Council member Pratik progressed after a 12 point victory over his countryman, AK. Resident “Elite” of the site, Acquafresca continued his impressive record in H2H competitions as he overturned a 13 point deficit from the first leg to record a victory over Super Zlatan’s PSG. The semi finals are as follows and will take part over the next two game weeks, GW36 and GW37. The spreadsheet can be found here.

Athletic Bilbao (Parmtree) vs Panathinaikos (Acquafresca)

Pre-competition Status Check (CL + Europa) – Please Read

Just a few important things to be aware of before the first gameday kicks off:

If you have not already read the rules, please do so now! That way you will know about home field advantage (a pretty big deal) and potential tie-breakers, etc.

Refer to the Europe drop down menu at the top of the page for anything and everything you need related to your competition (Pressers, HOF, fixtures, results, standings, write-ups, etc).

So far the presser’s have been quite good. We hope that the participating managers will keep this up while the rest of you find a way to join it! Please make sure to put your pressers on the correct post that matches with your competition. We will have a presser committee that gives out weekly awards for the best presser/team news from each competition.

I just wanted to extend my thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help out with write-ups, HOF and updating the results and tables. Please join me in giving a big thanks to TorresMagic, Berbilly, Shipstronstrev, Kaz, Declan McCarthy, TM245, Milanista, JK, Abhishek, Goonerdhanesh, and Roscola!

Also thanks to Pratik for coding a page for the CL and for Europa that displays all the scores so that the manual updating jobs are much easier.

Best of luck to you all on your first gameday! Except, of course, the Manager of Nice ;).

Announcement: Champions League Teams and Groups

After much deliberation, we are proud to announce the teams that have qualified for the CL and their respective groups!

For those of you who did not qualify for the CL, we are working hard to get the Europa League groups finished within the next few days.

Congratulations to all 32 managers that will be participating in the CL this year. Please comment on this post with a link to your grav as Berbilly will display the grav of the group leader each week in the standings.

For your benefit we have provided the schedule and the rules. Please pay special attention to the rules as there are a few key differences from the rules used for the leagues.

And now for the groups!

Contributors Needed

We are in need of contributors to help us run the Champions League and Europa League this season and to improve the atmosphere and excitement of these great competitions. Remember, there are 7 CL spots and 14 Europa spots that we will be awarding to managers that we believe will contribute to atmosphere of the competitions in the form of Pressers/team news, banter, and/or a contributor role. If you want to help, please fill out a short form here and be sure to read all instructions. Thanks!

Sincere apologies to all managers regarding the confusion between the tiebreaker rules.  We have ultimately decided that the tables you’ve seen throughout the year are indeed the final tables, which are based on GD.

EPL – Aston Villa – Epic Fail

Ligue 1 – Stade Rennes – Sarnab Wazza

La Liga – Deportivo La Coruna – Boom Shakalaka

ROE – PSV – FunkyAV

The return of UCL and Europa League in late Jan (gw24) promises to bring back the Google Docs which we know you’ve been secretly missing. Check the schedule here -:

Hearty congratulations to those who have already qualified for CL and Europa, their names are listed below.

f) Serie-A – US Pescara (Goonerdhanesh), Chievo Verona (Reina Man), Fiorentina (RoysCallerAnne), Sampdoria (Megatron x), Genoa (EX)

We made a special exception to the tie-breaker rule when it came to relegation. Both Roscola and I decided to sit out for the next phase for various reasons, giving Declan McCarthy and Grounderz who would have won via H2H another chance to compete in these leagues.

Of course, the trade-off was that we get to participate in the CL/Europa League 😎

Sadly it’s now time to say goodbye to those managers who won’t be joining us next season. These relegated managers are:

a) Bundesliga – Schalke 04(Bal4Tom), VfL Wolsburg(Nitin), Werder Bremen(Rick)

b) EPL – West Ham(Doosra), Man City (Happy Ankit), West Bromwich Albion (Man of Kent)

e) ROE – Fenerbache(Bedknobs and Boomsticks), Zenit (Gigging Order), Galatasaray S.K.(CatMac)

f) Serie-A – Juventus(Pratik), AC Milan (Milanista), Catnia (Djerbil)

For exceptional work and giving life to this competition, both Jkisthe1 and Milanista are also granted a spot in CL/Europa, despite being relegated.

This leaves a total of 21 spots left for the CL and Europa League still unoccupied. Relegated Managers will also be considered for these spots.

The main criteria for these spots is your contribution to the Uefa Council Leagues, and FFS. We will be looking for managers that will contribute to repeating the great atmosphere of last year’s CL and Europa through banter and pressers!

Accepted managers for season 2, feel free to contact us (, or via comments) if you have a particular team preference from the relegated teams in the league that you have been assigned. The new ROE managers can propose alternative team names if they wish to change to another European team not currently in any of the 6 leagues.

Registrations are on!!!!

Registrations can be done there, instructions are well specified. Please remember that you discuss with your friends in ffs, and decide your league preference accordingly.

After the overwhelming support, we are obliged to inform you that we feel that we have no other choice but to accept 120 teams. This implies that we push on with 6 leagues, and disappoint as few as possible –

a) We get 6 leagues started based on – Bundesliga (18 teams + 2 relegated teams have been added), EPL, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1, Rest of Europe

b) All of these leagues host the popular 1-1 format. POINT SCORING IS BASED ON THE OFFICIAL FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GAME.

c) It is scheduled for either half the year – gw1 to gw 19 (Half of the year). With the exception of the Bundesliga which is from gw1 to gw17.
